Disaster Recovery - Drying Machinary
On multi-storey projects where various materials and contents are affected, strategies must be developed to restore the facility as quickly as possible, bearing in mind the long term "health" of the building. Consideration must be given to containing the damage, minimizing disruption of normal operations while protecting occupants and workers. The contractor must verify that all materials are dried to proper specs and no hidden wet spots were overlooked. Throughout the project the goal should be to bring about a healthy indoor environment. Desiccant dehumidification, air cleaning and adequate job monitoring with proper sensory instruments are key.

At times restoring a wood floor is preferable to removing and replacing it. With proper configuration, desiccant dehumidification can be applied. Each layer of floor must be carefully monitored until drying goals ae met. In some cases the entire floor, or parts thereof, can be tented to concentrate drying. If there is a crawlspace then special care needs to be taken that contaminants are not drawn in from beneath. MCS's dehumidifiers are manufactured with this capability built in. NOTE: Whether wood floors are restored or not, do not neglect any concrete slab. This too must be properly dried.
